One of the most significant investments an organisation can make is in the ongoing development of their leaders. The more experienced leader may need to be re-energised. The budding leader will have new skills and behaviours to learn and still other leaders may need support with difficult transitions be it of an organisational or of a personal nature. Failure to develop a leader has significant side effects too. A demoralised leader will in turn demoralise a whole division or department. The result: often more than the leader leaves and the organisation loses more key talent. Leadership development enables an organisation to achieve better business results overall alongside the more subjective development of talent. It also aids in the development of an organisation’s coaching culture, creating an organisation which listens to its people, is reflective about its own performance, and learns from mistakes – an open, high-morale organisation.
