A word from Olwyn Merritt, Founder and Director of Pure Potential

I established Pure Potential to combine my commercial experience in senior operational roles with my experience of leading and managing talented people.

No successful leader follows an easy path. We all have to face tough challenges and make brave decisions. I have been fortunate to work with some exceptionally talented people and I know how valuable mentoring and coaching can be in developing crucial leadership skills. To be successful as a business leader meant that I had to develop those people around me to excel, both for their own personal satisfaction and to achieve our challenging company goals.

I noticed that many professionals, experts in their own fields, struggled to motivate and effectively manage their teams. They struggled to find the time to consider the people they needed around them, to articulate clearly their expectations of their team, and to galvanise people’s efforts to work together interdependently rather than as individual functional specialists. These struggles led to inconsistent company results, average performance and low morale.

Great businesses and professional practices achieve their commercial goals by investing time and energy in their talented people. People know that they are valued and respond accordingly.

I believe that people development programmes should inspire and motivate. Most importantly, they should provide learning that can easily be applied to the immediate workplace. This nets the greatest returns for individuals and organisations.
